Osteopathy The concept of osteopathy goes back to Andrew Taylor Still (1828-1917), an American Doctor, who developed this method of treatment over 100 years ago after watching helplessly the deaths of his 4 children and wife. The term OSTEOPATHY comes from the ancient Greek words OSTEO “bone” and PATHY “suffering, disease”.
The osteopathy is divided into three areas: Visceral osteopathy – inner organs and their attachment in the body Craniosacral osteopathy – skull, brain and spinal cord Parietal osteopathy – spine and limbs These areas form a physiological unit. This is how discomfort on the limbs can cause trouble with the spine. There is also the possibility that blockages in the spine can cause limited organ functions and the other way around. In Osteopathy the therapist spends time on the mobilization of the whole body and thus allows health and relief for the organ. Osteopathy increases the quality of life for suffering patients, improves the mobility, prevents joint wear and tear and is a good support for animals that are required for sport use and work assignments. Furthermore, it is an outstanding therapy as a rehabilitation measure after accidents and surgeries. The work is done only with hands.
